Editing Opening (Using Old Jump Cuts)

Now we have filmed our club scene, we decided to fit our shots in with the practice shots we did during planning time. This shows the slow build up of our project and how the parts are slowly adding together to create our opening sequence.
We changed the colours and levels/contrast of the clip so to match our theme as the lighting was very bright and looked more like a bright summery club than the dark one we were aiming for.

Permission Email

This is an email we sent to Virgin Records asking for permission to use their song. We sent it to the record company because they have ownership over their music and is important for them to know that we are using it for educational purposes and nothing else.

If we have no response from them we will then continue to use their music for our own use. However if they decide for us not to use the music then we will have to remake our music video and redo our story boards.

Editing Club Scenes - Timelapse

This is for part of video where we want the focus to be on the main actress, Honor. So we made all of the dancers dance in the background and made Honor stand still. This was important because then during time-lapse she would stay still and everyone would be bustling around her.
We put it in black and white as the strobes looked best desaturated and it also looked more like a club scene.

Editing Club Scenes - Slow Motion

For this club scene edit we experimented with the colour board to see what would look best for our music video style. We decided that a low saturation level and a slight dimming of the exposure was best for our music video.

We have also been playing with the speed of the video because we want it be slow motion and to fit in between shots of the Hotel Room. This will create a contrast between the fast and slow shots.

These clips will be used in our final video. But we will have to adjust the colour levels to match the rest of the video.

We have done a few slow motion clips in this style as we thought having more of a variety would help.

Problems & Solutions

Lighting Plan - Bathroom

This will be our lighting for the scene in the bathroom. Unfortunately we wont have a lot of room and we will have to make do with spotlights for lighting.

We will light the subject from the side so to create a silhouette and the camera will be filming the subjects acting in the mirror's reflection.

Lighting Plan - Studio

We have set the subject up to the centre of the image so that all focus is on them. There will be a light that will make sure the background looks strongly isolated from the subject. We will also use a light to light the subject from the side which will be soft but still high key.
The camera has been set up so that it'll be a mid shot of the subject but also in enough space to move around and pan.

Lighting Plan - Hotel Room

This will be quite difficult to light effectively as we will also be battling with daylight.
We will have a soft light on the rest of the room behind the subjects to create a blurred effect.
We will have quite a harsh, low-key light on the subjects so that they are in focus and strongly distinguished from the rest of the room.

Lighting Plan - Club Scene

This set had many different lights from all directions.
This was to create spotlights on the main subject and then the dancers were subject to the strobe lighting.
The camera was set up on a tripod so to capture the subject among the crowds.
Then we moved the camera around and everyone was immersed in strobe lights for the slow motion clips.

Lighting Plan - Cambridge

This is for the filming in Cambridge in the back streets. We are going to try and use set lighting to light the subject and rely on the light coming out of club windows to create a blurred effect behind them.

Signed Model Release Forms

These are the signed forms that we collected from Honor and Miles.
These have been signed by themselves and their parents.

3D Mock Digipak

Digital Story Board

We created a digital storyboard on Prezi after our feedback. This meant that we were able to see all of our clips and our progress from the original story board to this one too.

Story Board

Studio Application

This is a studio near where we live which lets you hire by the hour. This will be perfect for us as it isn't too expensive as we are working from a student budget and also it is close. They let you control your own lighting and you can construct your own shots.
It will cost £18 in total which means only £6 each.

Mock Advert

MILES - FUGITIVE
This is an example poster that Anna created during our lesson time whilst we were completing the risk assessment. We have decided to do a tour poster which shows the different venues that have or haven't been sold out. This is selling the band well because it shows that they are desirable and sought after by bands.
We have used images that we will use on our CD Digipak to show intertextual references.

Cambridge Filming - Weather

We needed to look at the weather conditions for our day out filming during half term. We will be going to Cambridge and we will be outdoors the whole time which means we will have to adjust our costumes accordingly. Unfortunately, as we are filming during October, the weather is not going to be particularly easy to handle. The temperature is already dropping quite low and so we need to make sure our actor and actress are as comfortable as possible.

From the forecast so far, we can see that it is going to be particularly cold and possibly rainy. This is not ideal but it will have to be coped with well. So we will make sure we have briefed the actor and actress on the correct costume and we will also bring warm coats, hot drinks and umbrellas to make sure they don't get too uncomfortable.

Mock Digipak

We spent a lot of time in our lessons researching different products that inspired this mock up of our Digipak. After the research we completed, I went created this mock up of our what we wish our final project to look like. In this post, I will show the comparisons between ours and our inspirations.

FRONT COVER

For our front cover, Anna had been researching different Photoshop techniques that we could use to make our cover more appealing to the audience. She found the 'Glitterbug' cover by The Wombats which would be perfect for our music video. We will overlay the lights of Cambridge onto the outline of our actor and actress. The version on the right is our own. It is a album cover I did for a photography project and so I know how to complete the techniques for this effect. However we will use a silhouette and have all of the features completely obscured.

BACK COVER

This wasn't really inspired by a different product, we just used shots of Cambridge in the back ground and then layered the images with some bokeh effect light painting to create the illusion of different coloured bright lights.
The text is similar to that of the Bastille CD back cover and we have tried to lay it out in a modern and simplistic way so that it doesn't bring too much attention away from the background.
For our final piece, I think we will experiment with different coloured texts so to match the colour scheme.

INSIDE LEFT PAGE

We thought it would be very important to include the signature symbol of Bastille. So I layered the 'A' over the top of the light painting and images of Cambridge at night.
Unforunately, our main star does not have the letter 'A' in his name. His name is Miles so we will possibly have to create our own symbol using one of the letters from his name.

INSIDE RIGHT PAGE

This, like the back cover, was done just using our own ideas. We thought that the layering of lyrics all over the page showing key parts of our song would be very important.
For the final piece, we would obviously include more lyrics but would also experiment with different font types, sizes and serifs.

CD STICKERS & BACKGROUNDS

We decided that it was best to keep the CD sticker classic and plain, much like Bastille's own. This is so that attention isn't drawn from the main designs. We will have two CDs as there is a part 1 and 2 of the 'All This Bad Blood' deluxe album. We will put our own music video onto one of the CDs to complete the whole design and possibly the pitch or a voice over of our video onto the other.

Model Release Form

Both of our actors/actresses are under the age of 18 which means that we will need them to sign a model release form and also be signed by their parent or legal guardian.
This is purely for the protection of the actors/actresses so that all footage will only be used for the making of this film and that they won't be perceived negatively.

Digipak Template

This is our Digipak layout that we will be importing our own images into.
It has also been helpful because when printed, we can fold together to show a miniature version of the 3D digipak.
We will need to create six different panels as well as two CD covers.
In a follow up post, I will show the research we have done and our inspirations.

Digipak Task

BATILLE - Bad Blood

The digipak for Bastille - Bad Blood is very simplistic but very good a representing the style of the band. The indie cover which was talked about in the Advert Task, shows that Dan, the main singer, is running away from the camera and this shows a lack of love for the fame and the money of it all but just the music.

The CD is once again very simplistic. I think that they were trying to recreate the look and style of vinyl which has now become very popular again. This would then appeal to the pop target audience.
The back cover of the CD case shows the car that is shining its headlights onto Dan. This shows that he is being chased or hunted down which links to the album title 'Bad Blood'.
The song list is very simple. However, the letter A has been replaced by Bastille's signature 'A' which is seen in the band's title and all over their tour posters or CD cases.

THE KOOKS - Inside In, Inside Out

This digipak conforms more to a pop music CD case as it includes a page which is dedicated to some of the bands photos. However, they have completed in an individual way. They have used film strips that are used in analogue cameras and they have been layed out like a contact sheet to see all of the photos from backstage or on tour.

They have also included a page which has credits on which is very common in all types of popular CDs. However the band's picture has been overlayed with another image which partially blurs out their features.

The CD case is quite bold compared to the rest of the CD digipak. I think this may be a way of saying that the music is extremely good compared to the quite low key case.
